I left my I-Pad under my seat on a United flight in Anchorage, Alaska. I was the last off the plane and only the cleaning crew were on board.

Twenty minutes later when I realized my mistake I returned to get it only to be told by a United agent that I'd have to fill out their "Lost On Board," form online to get my item back. I told them it wasn't lost since I knew exactly where I had left it. I told them the flight number and the seat number it was under. Still, without sending someone to retrieve it, they forced me to fill out the online form and said they'd call me when it had been located.

Three weeks later, I still haven't heard a thing from them. I've called several times only to be routed to a department in INDIA to speak with someone I can barely understand and who only wants to repeat that they aren't responsible for the lost item and they'd call me when it was found. I am LIVID with this ridiculous, inefficient process that United puts you through to claim valuables left on planes. I can understand if the item had been reported several days, or even hours, later, but within MINUTES, they won't even send someone to get it.

Do NOT expect United representatives to care about your personal belongings...their policy is not written with you in mind. And, United, if you are going to outsource to India, then you better get Indians who can speak proper english!

Monetary Loss: $600.

Location: Anchorage, Alaska

I left my chapstick on a AirTran flight. We were halfway around the airport before I realized it, and I sent my 12 year old son back to get it.., he talked to one of the flight attendants, (my mom NEEDS her chapstick!) and they let him on the plane to get it.

Nowhere near the cost and value of an ipad.. but atleast they were fair about it.. what if it had been your entire carry on bag??

Yikes. scary.
